Staphylococcus warneri is a Gram-positive bacterium that is increasingly recognized in modern phytopathology as an opportunistic pathogen for various plant species. Although this species is commonly associated with the microbiome of humans and animals, recent studies have identified its involvement in bacterial infections of agricultural and ornamental plants, warranting greater focus from agricultural specialists.

This microorganism is capable of infecting a wide range of vegetable and fruit crops. Plants under stress or those with mechanical tissue damage are particularly susceptible to Staphylococcus warneri. In many instances, this bacterium is found as part of complex infectious mixtures that target the vascular system or the foliage of the plant.

The primary symptoms of infection include the development of irregular necrotic spots, often surrounded by a chlorotic halo. As the infection progresses, fruit may show signs of decay or localized spotting, which significantly reduces the commercial quality of the produce. In severe cases, wilting of individual shoots occurs due to the obstruction of the plant's vascular bundles by bacterial colonies.

The pathogen thrives under conditions of high humidity and moderately elevated temperatures. The bacterium can survive in crop residues and topsoil, becoming active when environmental factors are favorable. Transmission of the infection frequently occurs via insect vectors, contaminated pruning tools, or water droplets during overhead irrigation.
