The biological impact of Stigonemataceae on plants is primarily related to mechanical and physiological stress. By colonizing the leaves and stems, these cyanobacteria block stomata and limit light penetration, which inhibits the plant's ability to photosynthesize effectively and breathe, ultimately leading to stunted development and crop decline.
