In the context of agronomy, it is often discussed in studies related to soil microbial ecology or the safety of manure-based fertilization, rather than plant disease control.
Biologically, the species is known for its curved, motile morphology and its metabolic reliance on fumarate reduction. It functions within anaerobic environments, utilizing various organic compounds found in the soil matrix. Its presence in the field is usually secondary, resulting from the application of organic fertilizers or runoff from livestock facilities.
There are no specific plant crops susceptible to Wolinella succinogenes because it does not colonize living plant tissues as a parasite.
