ACADEMIC KAZAKOV

The 'Academic Kazakov' apple variety is a winter variety developed at the V. I. Michurin Federal Scientific Research Institute of Fruit and Vegetable Breeding in the Tambov region. The tree is of medium height, reaching 2.5 to 3 meters, with an oval crown of medium density and straight, compact branches. The bark is smooth and grayish-brown. A powerful root system is located primarily in the soil layer at a depth of 30—80 cm, ensuring good stability against unfavorable conditions. The variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness and can withstand frosts down to 20 degrees below zero.

The fruits of the 'Academic Kazakov' variety are large, with an average weight of about 160 g and a maximum of up to 205 g. They have a correct flattened spherical shape with a smooth surface. The color of the apples varies from light red to green with red-pink veins; the flesh is cream-colored, dense, finely granular, juicy, and has a tart-sweet taste. The fruits contain an increased amount of vitamin C (about 13 mg%), making them particularly beneficial. Fruiting begins in the 4th to 6th year after planting, and fruiting regularity is not observed.

The variety possesses monogenic resistance to scab, which ensures high immune protection and allows growing apple trees without the use of fungicides. Fruits are harvested in early October and can be consumed both directly from the tree and after long storage. Apples keep well until March, and in some years until June, which makes the variety in demand for winter consumption. High yield, excellent consumer qualities, and storage capacity make Academic Kazakov an attractive choice for gardeners.
