CHAMPION RENO

The Champion Reno Apple is a late-winter variety of Czech selection, bred as a hybrid of Golden Delicious and Cox's Orange Pippin. It is a medium-sized tree with a compact oval crown of medium density, reaching heights from 2.7 to 3.5 meters. The variety is early-yielding, fruiting as early as 2-3 years after planting, with yields reaching 17-25 kg per tree by the 5-6th year. Blossoming occurs in medium terms, abundantly and uniformly; the tree is partially self-fertile, but for better pollination, it is recommended to plant varieties such as Idared, Ligol, Spartan, Lobo, Golden Delicious, Gloucester, Everest, and others nearby.

The fruits of the Champion Reno variety are large, weighing from 160 to 190 grams, oval-round in shape, and uniform. The main color of the apples is greenish-yellow with a characteristic orange-red diffuse striped blush covering a significant part of the surface. The skin is thin but dense, elastic and dry. The flesh is light cream, medium density, very juicy and aromatic with a pleasant sweet-sour taste. Apples are well suited for fresh consumption and have an attractive appearance.

The variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness and resistance to scab, although resistance to powdery mildew is average. The apple tree is well adapted to various climatic conditions, including steppe and forest-steppe zones. For successful cultivation, it is recommended to choose sunny plots with fertile, light soils and moderate irrigation. Seedling planting is possible both in spring and autumn with a distance between trees of about 3 meters. Due to high yield, stable fruiting, and excellent fruit taste qualities, the Champion Reno variety is a promising choice for both commercial cultivation and private gardeners.
