D-1071

D-1071 is a dwarf green-leafed rootstock for apple trees, developed in Ukraine at the Artemivsk Experimental Nursery Station. It is distinguished by enhanced rootstock cold tolerance, withstanding temperatures down to -12—14 °C, as well as high drought resistance and ability to tolerate temporary flooding. Due to these qualities, trees grafted onto D-1071 rootstock enter fruiting earlier than those on the widely used M9 rootstock, as confirmed by experiments at the Sumy Experimental Orchard Station, where apple trees of the 'Edera' variety on D-1071 rootstock yielded 8.7 tons per hectare, compared to 7.2 tons per hectare on M9 rootstock.

Trees grown on D-1071 rootstock have brittle root systems located in the upper soil layer, therefore requiring mandatory support for proper growth and development. The height of such apple trees usually does not exceed 2-2.5 meters, making them suitable for intensive orchard cultivation and for creating espalier, hedge, and other decorative compositions.

Using D-1071 rootstock allows for early and abundant fruiting with high-quality fruits. These apple trees are ideal for intensive orchards, where high yield and ease of maintenance are crucial. Thanks to its unique characteristics, D-1071 rootstock represents a promising solution for modern gardeners aiming for efficient and sustainable apple tree cultivation.
