DARENA

The 'Darena' apple variety is a triploid late summer variety developed at the Federal State Budgetary Institution 'All-Russian Research Institute of Fruit Breeding' (FGZNU VNII Selectsii Plodovykh Kultur) and included in the State Register for the Central Black Earth Region. Trees of this variety are tall, fast-growing, have a round crown, and sparse branch distribution. The bark on the trunk and main branches is smooth and greenish, while fruiting structures are represented by simple and compound ring clusters. The variety is distinguished by high resistance to scab and satisfactory frost hardiness, tolerating temperatures down to -33°C, although it does not withstand soil waterlogging.

The 'Darena' apple fruits are large, weighing up to 180 grams, elongated, conical, ribbed, and oblique. The main fruit color is greenish-yellow with a covering red striped or blush color covering most of the surface. The flesh is white or slightly greenish, of medium density, coarse-grained, juicy with an acidic-sweet taste and a faint aroma. The appearance of the fruits is highly rated, making them attractive for commercial cultivation.

The variety is distinguished by regular and abundant fruiting, ensuring a stable annual yield. Fruit ripening occurs in the second half of August, allowing apples to be used fresh during the summer-autumn period. The chemical composition of the fruits is characterized by a sugar content of about 10.3%, titratable acids of 0.79%, ascorbic acid of 8.8 mg per 100 g, as well as a significant amount of pectic and flavonoid substances, which increases their nutritional value and beneficial properties.
