LETO KRASNOE

The Leto Krasnoe apple tree represents a late-summer variety, which is a clone of the Dayton variety. The tree is medium-sized or weak-growing, reaching a height of 2-2.5 meters, with a pyramidal crown of medium density and straight branches branching off at an angle close to perpendicular. The fruiting type is mixed, with a predominance of simple and complex ringlets, as well as short and long fruit spurlets; fruits can be located at the base of one-year-old shoots. The variety possesses sufficient resistance to scab and powdery mildew, although its winter hardiness is low.

The fruits of the Leto Krasnoe apple tree are large, weighing from 180 to 220 grams, with a truncated-conical shape, with a greenish skin covered with a red striped blush that occupies most of the surface. The flesh is creamy, dense, finely-grained, juicy, with a harmonious sweet-sour taste and a slight tartness, which gives the apples a unique aroma. The tasting evaluation of the fruits is 4.6 points. The chemical composition is characterized by a dry matter content of about 15.8%, sugars of 11.8%, titratable acids of 0.58% and ascorbic acid of 9.4 mg per 100 grams. Harvest maturity occurs in the second half of August; the fruits are well preserved in the refrigerator for up to two months and have high transportability.

For successful cultivation of the variety, it is recommended to choose loose and fertile soils, ensure regular irrigation, especially in the first two years after planting, and maintain a distance between trees of about 4-5 meters for sufficient growth space. In the spring, formative pruning must be conducted, removing diseased and damaged branches to maintain the correct crown structure. Leto Krasnoe apples are universal in use: they are excellent for fresh consumption as well as for preparing desserts and compotes.
