SHUKSHIN TRIBUTE

The 'Shukshin' apple variety is an autumn variety developed at the M.A. Lisavenko Siberian Institute of Horticulture. The tree is medium-sized with a rounded, dense crown; branches grow upwards at an angle greater than 60°. The fruiting type is mixed, ensuring stable and abundant yields. Fruiting begins in the fourth or fifth year after planting, making the variety early-fruiting and attractive to gardeners.

Fruits of the 'Shukshin' variety have a rounded-truncated-conical shape; average weight is about 80-85 grams, sometimes reaching up to 110 grams. At harvest maturity, the skin has a greenish base color with strong red and crimson blush and dark stripes. The flesh is creamy, dense, coarse-grained, juicy, and has an acid-sweet taste with a moderate aroma, confirmed by a taste rating of 4.0 points. The chemical composition includes 12.4% soluble dry matter, 10.2% sugars, 0.6% titratable acids, and 9.8 mg/100 g of ascorbic acid.

The variety is distinguished by high resistance to scab due to the presence of the Rvi6 (Vf) immunity gene, providing reliable protection against five strains of the disease. Frost hardiness is moderate, allowing cultivation in various climatic conditions. Yield averages 11.6 tons per hectare, and the consumption period lasts about two months, starting from late August to early September. These characteristics make 'Shukshin' an excellent choice for gardeners seeking tasty and disease-resistant apples.
