Description
The Williams Pride apple tree is one of the best summer varieties of American selection, distinguished by high yield and resistance to major diseases such as scab, powdery mildew, and rust. This variety was developed in the USA through complex breeding involving several well-known varieties, which endowed it with unique characteristics and high adaptability. The tree is of medium height, with a wide-oval or spindle-shaped crown, reaching a height of 3.5 to 5 meters. It is spreading and sturdy, with branches growing at a convenient angle, which facilitates care and harvest collection. Blooming occurs early and intensively, fruiting begins in the 2nd-3rd year depending on the rootstock, and a stable high yield is achieved from the 6th-8th year. The fruits of the Williams Pride apple tree have medium and large sizes, weighing from 125 to 170 grams and more. They have a round-conical shape with slight ribbing and an attractive coloring: a light yellow base with a rich dark red or maroon blush with a purple tint, covered with a smooth shiny skin with a light waxy bloom. The flesh of the fruits is cream or yellow-cream, dense, juicy, and crisp, with a pleasant refreshing sour-sweet taste and a light aroma. The fruits ripen at the end of July – beginning of August, the harvest season lasts about one and a half months, which allows them to be used both for fresh consumption and for making jams, compotes, preserves, and dried fruits. The Williams Pride variety is self-unfruitful, so pollinators are necessary to obtain a stable and abundant yield. The best ones are the varieties Golden Delicious, Jonathan, Katy, Papierka, Julia, and Melba. The apple tree is characterized by high drought resistance and good frost hardiness, which makes it a universal choice for both private gardeners and industrial cultivation. Due to its qualities and decorative appeal, this variety enjoys well-deserved popularity among gardeners and farmers.
