Description
The buckwheat variety Ukrainianka was developed by the Institute of Agronomy of UAAN and approved for cultivation in Ukraine since 1997. This variety features medium-height plants, 85–95 cm tall, which is lower compared to other popular varieties reaching 105 cm. Such height contributes to resistance against lodging, confirmed by numerous trials and practical experience. Ukrainianka has a high photosynthetic potential, which promotes good yield and grain quality.
It is a medium-maturing variety with a vegetation period of 75–85 days and a yield of 3–3.6 t/ha. Plants are well-branched, with 4–6 internodes on the main stem. The fruits have weakly developed wings and are colored from light brown to brown. The 1000-grain weight is 28–29 g, and the flour yield reaches 75–77 %. Thanks to its ecological plasticity, the variety successfully grows in the Polissia and Forest-steppe zones of Ukraine.
Buckwheat Ukrainianka is valued for its resistance to pests and diseases, making it a reliable choice for the food industry, including flour and honey production. The price of this variety is comparable to other popular varieties, making it accessible for a wide range of producers. High grain quality and resistance to adverse growing conditions make Ukrainianka a sought-after variety in the domestic market.
