Description
Edwina basil variety – a fast-growing and highly-yielding type developed by Dutch seed company Enza Zaden. It is suitable for year-round cultivation in open ground as well as in greenhouses, cold frames, or potted containers, due to its excellent adaptability to various agrotechnical conditions and resistance to light deficiency.
Edwina plants have an upright structure, reaching about 40 cm in height, with dark green, ellipsoidal leaves of medium size. The leaves are slightly wavy at the edges, possess an intense spicy aroma, and a mild peppery taste, making them ideal for fresh consumption, as well as for meat and fish dishes, canning, and drying.
Care for the variety is simple: seeds are sown in warmed moist soil, optionally via seedlings. Seedlings appear within 10–12 days at 20–25 °C; after emergence, the cover is removed, and temperature is maintained at 16–20 °C. When planting, the row method is recommended with a distance between rows of at least 20 cm. Plants require regular watering, loosening, and weeding, but they tolerate low light intensity well and possess high immunity to powdery mildew. Yield reaches 3 kg/m², and bush mass is about 250 g.
Edwina is intended for the fresh vegetable market, processing, and cut flowers, and is also suitable for home cultivation in pots due to its compactness and resistance to various conditions.
