Description
Crambe variety VIR 2 (Latin name Crambe abyssinica Hochst. ex R. E. Fr.) is a highly efficient agricultural product used in industry for the production of lubricants, liquid heat carrier, coatings, oils, plastics, and nylon, as well as as biofuel. The plant is characterized by sprawling, medium-length leaves with a small number of leaflet lobes, a medium-length rootstock, and a height of up to 122 cm. The vegetation period is from 96 to 112 days, and the plant is resistant to lodging, shattering, and drought, and is also weakly affected by alternaria.
The oil content of the variety seeds reaches 45–47%, and the content of erucic acid is 62–65%. This ensures high value for the product for the production of lubricants and biofuels. The average yield is 13.5–15 c/ha, and the mass of 1000 grains varies from 10 to 12 g.
VIR 2 is included in the state register for a wide range of regions: Northern, Northwestern, Central, Volga-Vyatsky, Central Chernozem, North Caucasian, Middle Volga, Lower Volga, Urals, Western Siberia, Eastern Siberia, and the Far East. The variety was registered in 2010, the author is Kon'kova Nina Grigorievna, and the originator is the Federal Research Center "All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources named after N.I. Vavilov" and the scientific and production firm "Russian Seeds", branch Ekaterininskaya OS VIR.
