Description

Cucumber Berendey — this is a domestic early-maturing hybrid, intended for cultivation under various conditions: in gardens, in plastic greenhouses, as well as on balconies and loggias. The plant is indeterminate type with unlimited main stem growth, has medium-sized green leaves and predominantly female flowers. Fruit set occurs in clusters, with 3 to 4 fruits per cluster, ensuring high yield — about 8 kg of cucumbers can be harvested from one plant. The hybrid is distinguished by its unique shade tolerance and resistance to such diseases as true powdery mildew and root rots. Berendey cucumber fruits have a cylindrical shape, length 12–14 cm, and weight 120–140 g. Their surface is finely ribbed, with white spines and dark green coloration with short light stripes. The skin is thin and tender, while the flesh is dense and crisp, giving the fruits a pleasant taste without bitterness. Thanks to these qualities, cucumbers are ideal for fresh consumption, as well as for making summer salads. Additionally, they are versatile in use and perfectly suitable for winter preservation — pickling, marinating, and canning. Cultivation of the Berendey hybrid begins with sowing seedlings at the end of April, followed by transplanting into the ground at the 3–4 true leaf stage in late May — early June, according to the 50x50 cm scheme. Direct sowing into the greenhouse is also possible in mid-May. The plant requires regular watering and feeding to achieve maximum yield. Due to its resistance and adaptability, cucumber Berendey is an excellent choice for gardeners wishing to obtain a tasty and high-quality harvest under various cultivation conditions.
