CIGAN

Cigan — a fast-maturing, bee-pollinated cucumber hybrid with predominantly female flowering, intended for cultivation in open ground and under temporary film coverings. From germination to the onset of fruiting, it takes 43–48 days. The plant is strong-growing with moderate branching ability, demanding warmth, moisture, and fertile soil; it responds well to organic and mineral fertilizers. Sowing is recommended after frost risk, when soil temperature reaches 10–12 °C, at a seeding rate of 0.2–0.5 g per m² and a planting depth of 3–4 cm. In the 1–2 leaf stage, plant density should be formed, maintaining a planting density of 4–5 plants per m².

The fruits of the Cigan cucumber are short, 9–11 cm long, weighing 80–100 g, bumpy, black-spined, with a rich green color and barely visible stripes. They are uniform, free of bitterness, resistant to hollowing, and maintain their market appearance for a long time. Due to their qualities, the fruits are versatile: suitable for fresh consumption as well as for processing — pickling and marinating.

The hybrid exhibits high resistance to root rot, true and false powdery mildew, ensuring stable yields and resilience to adverse growing conditions. Yield is 4–5 kg per plant, making Cigan an attractive choice for gardeners and farmers seeking high-quality, abundant cucumber harvests.
