SHALUN

Shalun is an early-maturing, high-yielding parthenocarpic hybrid, suitable for cultivation in open fields, under plastic coverings, or in greenhouses. The plant is medium-height, indeterminate, predominantly female-flowering, eliminating the need for pollination. Fruit set begins 38-42 days after mass seedlings, enabling early harvest.

Shalun cucumber fruits have a classic cylindrical cornish shape, 9.5-12 cm long and 3.3-3.6 cm in diameter, weighing 80-90 grams. The fruits are medium-ribbed, covered with numerous white spines, have small seed chambers, and exhibit a rich green color with stripes and mottling. The cucumbers have outstanding flavor, are free of bitterness, and are ideal for fresh consumption, pickling, and salting.

The variety demonstrates high resistance to major cucumber diseases, including cucumber mosaic virus, true powdery mildew, olive spot, vein yellowing virus, leaf target spot, and false powdery mildew. For successful cultivation, use fertile, well-aerated medium-loam soils, and follow agronomic practices such as plastic mulching, plant shaping with pinching off lower fruits and lateral shoots, regular watering, and fertilization. Yield reaches 14 kg/m2 in open fields and up to 23 kg/m2 in protected cultivation.
