BLACK CYLINDER

The Black Cylinder eggplant variety is a mid-season type with high yield. The plant is sprawling, reaching a height of 60 to 90 cm. The fruits are cylindrical in shape, dark purple with a glossy surface, up to 30 cm long and weighing 200 to 270 g. They keep well on the plant and are easy to transport. The flesh is greenish, tasty, and does not contain bitterness. The fruits lack spines on the calyx or they are encountered very rarely, which facilitates harvest.

This eggplant variety is excellent for home cooking, as well as for canning, pickling, salting, and preparing various dishes such as caviar and stew. The culture is heat-loving and requires sufficient lighting and moisture for full growth. Seeds are sown for seedlings in February-March to a depth of 1.5-2 cm, and pricking out is carried out in the phase of the second true leaf. Seedlings are planted in greenhouses at 60-70 days old from mid-May, and into open ground in June after the threat of frosts has passed.

To form the bush, it is recommended to remove all side shoots and leaves up to the first fork, and by the end of July leave 5-6 of the largest fruits on the plant, removing the rest of the flowers and fruits. Care for the plant includes regular feeding, watering, and soil loosening. Such an approach ensures abundant fruiting and high quality of the harvest.
