Maximizing crop quality: operating with Dukanit

When we use Dukanit from the Slovak producer Duslo (Istrochem production plant), our goal is not just standard nitrogen application, but improving the commercial value of our produce. In the field, this fertilizer performs consistently: the granules are uniform and dust-free during loading into seed drills or spreaders, which is critical when handling large volumes. Unlike standard ammonium nitrate, this calcium-based formulation requires a specific approach, but the results in terms of harvest quality make the logistics and application worth the effort.

Why the calcium complex changes the field game

• Cell membrane strength: We’ve observed a clear improvement in the cellular structure of potatoes and vegetables. Fruits and tubers become denser, making them more resistant to handling.
• Shelf life: Produce grown with Dukanit shows significantly better storage durability. For an agronomist, this means less stress regarding rot and losses during winter storage.
• Transportability: Crops like sunflowers and corn show better resistance to mechanical stress during harvesting and transit to the elevator.

Application and handling insights

Basic application is the most effective method for this fertilizer. As it falls into hazard class 4, working with the composition is straightforward and doesn’t require extreme safety measures, though standard PPE is mandatory. It is important to remember that Dukanit is not just nitrogen nutrition; it provides structural support through calcium (CaO). We use it as a foundational program for vegetable, fruit, and industrial crops such as sugar beets. When calculating rates, we account for the fact that high calcium content paired with 15-20% nitrogen provides both a growth kick-start and structural reinforcement during the fruit-setting phase.

Regarding equipment care: the fertilizer has good flowability, but due to its hygroscopic nature, it is best not to leave residues in the hopper under high-humidity conditions to prevent caking and potential corrosion of machine components. For our operations, Dukanit represents the right balance between cost-effectiveness and high-impact crop quality.
