«Flexity S.C.» by BASF is a specialized fungicide designed for professional grain producers facing intense powdery mildew pressure. The active ingredient, metrafenone, belongs to the benzophenone class and works by inhibiting the formation of appressoria, effectively stopping the pathogen in its tracks before it can colonize the plant tissue.

Practical Application Strategies

In field conditions for winter wheat and barley, Flexity is most effectively deployed during the tillering to stem elongation stages. Farmers utilize the product in two primary scenarios:

• Curative treatment: When initial symptoms appear on lower leaves, the systemic action of Flexity halts infection and prevents the secondary spread of spores.
• Preventive barrier: In high-risk environments, it acts as a robust shield, protecting the crop during its most vulnerable phases of rapid growth.

The product’s systemic properties ensure movement within the plant, while its translaminar effect provides essential coverage for leaves that may not have been directly hit by the spray. This is particularly beneficial during spring, when crops grow rapidly and leaf area increases daily.

Integration into Agrotechnical Cycles

The application rate ranges from 0.2 to 0.5 L/ha, depending on the severity of the infection and crop density. Up to two treatments are permitted per season. Because Flexity is highly specific to powdery mildew, it is commonly tank-mixed with other fungicides (such as triazoles or strobilurins) to broaden the spectrum of protection against septoria and rust in intensive cultivation systems.
