Fungazil 100 SL, developed by the Belgian manufacturer Belchim Crop Protection N.V./S.A., is a systemic fungicide based on imazalil (imidazoles). Its primary mechanism of action involves the inhibition of ergosterol biosynthesis, a vital component of fungal cell membranes. Unlike surface-acting contact agents, the systemic properties of this formulation allow the active ingredient to penetrate the tuber's periderm, establishing an internal and external shield against infection.

Technical Application and Efficacy

• Target Spectrum: The product is highly effective against a specific complex of storage and soil-borne pathogens, including Helminthosporium (silver scurf), Fusarium, and Phoma.
• Formulation Benefits: As a soluble concentrate (SL), it offers excellent solubility and distribution upon application, ensuring consistent coverage of the potato tubers.
• Usage Parameters: The application rate is set between 0.5 and 1.0 liters per ton. Due to the high biological efficacy of the active substance, a single treatment is sufficient to suppress infection pressure throughout the storage period.

The systemic nature of Fungazil 100 SL is essential for preventing the spread of rot within storage facilities, where micro-climatic conditions often favor the rapid development of Fusarium and Phoma species. By stopping the mycelial growth of these pathogens, the product significantly preserves the quality and marketability of the crop.
