Description

Eastern Galega Yubileir variety (Galega orientalis Lam.) – a perennial leguminous plant that reaches 120–170 cm in height and forms a powerful bush with 10-20 erect stems. Leaves are large, complex odd-pinnate, up to 30 cm long, and inflorescences are erect racemes 15-35 cm long with bright blue-violet flowers.

This crop is distinguished by high resistance to drought, diseases and pests, frost-hardy. The root system is taprooted, penetrating up to 50-80 cm deep, which makes galega an excellent cover crop: it enriches the soil with nitrogen without exhausting its resources. Due to vegetative reproduction and nodule formation, the plant becomes denser each year.

Green mass yield reaches 576 kg/ha, dry - 135 kg/ha, and seeds - from 5.0 to 6.2 c/ha. Protein content in feed mass is 19.8%. Seeds have a dense shell (hard up to 35%) and maintain germination for up to 8 years with proper storage. For successful seed germination, scarification is recommended 1-2 months before sowing and infection with nodule bacteria, for example, with the Rizotorfin preparation.

Galega Yubileir is suitable for creating swards with a reduced sowing rate without loss of yield. It can become an important element of meadow agro-phytocenoses, ensuring stability and productivity of the feed base. Early flowering period (end of May - beginning of July) allows using the plant in a two-cut system: after the first mowing for hay and fodder, the second flowering begins in mid-August and continues until mid-September, which is also advantageous for beekeeping.

The final product is galega seeds weighing 500 g, suitable for planting new bushes as well as for use as a cover crop or feed crop.
