Description
The «Sumery» variety is a mid-ripening bitter-aromatic hop intended for cultivation in the central region of Russia. It is a hybrid 38-11 obtained from the open-pollination of hybrid 14-38 and was bred at the All-Russian State Research Institute of Hop Growing in Kalistovo, Moscow Region. Characteristic external features include red stems, branches, and petioles, while leaves retain a rich green color.
The key feature of the variety is the rigid structure of the side branches, which may complicate the work of the hop harvester. Nevertheless, this impact currently remains minimal for most farmers. The length of the vegetation period is from 110 to 120 days, and the potential yield is in the range of 17-25 centners per hectare; according to 2016 data, the average actual yield reached 24.0 c/ha.
The chemical composition of «Sumery» is characterized by a bitter substance content of 19% to 21%, and alpha-acids are within the range of 6.1%–9.2%. These indicators make the variety suitable for beer production and other alcoholic beverages where a balance of bitterness and aroma is important. Thanks to its properties, «Sumery» is in demand among manufacturers striving for stable quality and yield in a temperate climate.
