Description
Iris "Sigalga" is a perennial herbaceous plant obtained through free pollination of the "Motiv" variety and developed by the FGUN Botanical Garden-Institute of the Ufa Scientific Center of the RAS. The variety was included in the 2010 registry and quickly gained popularity among gardeners thanks to bright, large flowers up to 14 cm in diameter and rich bicolor coloring: inner segments are brownish-purple, outer ones are dark burgundy with a velvety texture. The flowers have a strong aroma, and the anthers develop normally, making them attractive for cutting and decorative use in flower beds, groups, and massive plantings.
"Sigalga" is characterized by high disease resistance and good adaptation to various climatic conditions. The plant shows cold hardiness, can grow in Northern Siberia, and withstands heat due to high heat resistance. The rhizome is horizontal, knobby, and branched, which ensures the plant's stability in various soils. The bush grows slowly, but at the same time maintains a sturdy scape up to 95 cm high.
The plant's appearance is characterized by short glaucescent-green leaves up to 7 mm wide and bright yellow or yellow-purple perianths with a beard. Flowering occurs in May-June, and fruiting occurs in June. The seeds are light brown, oval, and wrinkled. Thanks to the combination of decorative qualities, resistance to climatic stress, and ease of care, the "Sigalga" variety is an excellent choice for gardeners who want to add bright, fragrant irises to their landscape compositions.
