PRIKUBANSKY

The 'Prikubansky' jujube variety is a medium-sized fruit tree obtained in 2004 at the Kuban State Agrarian University. The fruits have an elongated pear shape and a dark red color, weighing up to 5.4 grams. The pulp is rosy, tender, and juicy, with a sweet-and-sour taste; the stone is large but firmly held in the pulp.

Acids in the fruits reach 1.6%, while sugar content exceeds 8.5%. The jujube contains more than 25.6 mg of vitamin C per 100 g. Tasters rate the variety at 4.6 out of 5 points.

The medium-sized tree has a rounded shape with slightly drooping branches and is resistant to diseases and pests. It is winter-hardy: withstands frosts down to -30 °C and can be grown in central and northern regions of Russia, as well as in the southern part of the country. For successful growth, it is recommended to plant in an open area, on a southern or southeast side, on well-drained fertile soil; waterlogged areas are not suitable.

Care of the plant includes regular watering (especially in spring and in August), fertilizing with ammonium nitrate, superphosphate, and wood ash. To shape the bush, the central leader is cut off after two years of planting. Protection from northern winds can be provided by covering young plants in winter if necessary.

The 'Prikubansky' jujube can be used both as a living hedge and for harvesting fruits at the end of summer or beginning of autumn. Thanks to its resistance and rich taste, it is suitable both for home growing and for commercial production.
