Description
Creeping wheatgrass "STEPASHA" is a selection sample obtained within the framework of competitive variety trials in the Northern Zauralie region from 2015 to 2020. It is characterized by medium maturity: 97–114 days from emergence to seed maturation. During this period, the plant reaches a height of 121–148 cm, with a leafiness of 37–45 %. These parameters make it convenient for mowing and pasture use.
The productivity and quality indicators of the green mass of the "STEPASHA" variety exceed the standard Langepas variety. The average yield over six years is 23.3 t/ha (compared to 21.1 t/ha for the standard), which is 9 % higher. Dry matter content reaches 8.9 t/ha and can reach 9–10 t/ha in favorable years. Dry matter content in plants ranges from 34–42 %, crude protein from 6.2–14 %, and fiber from 29–35 %. The average crude protein yield over six years is 0.88 t/ha (compared to 0.75 t/ha for the standard), which is 17 % higher.
Seed productivity of the variety also exceeds the standard: 0.16 t/ha versus 0.14 t/ha. Creeping wheatgrass "STEPASHA" is resistant to lodging and is technologically sound, so it is recommended for mowing and pasture use, as well as as a basis for special lawns and for land rehabilitation. Due to good retention of productivity with age, the plant is suitable for both short-term and long-term agricultural applications.
