Description
Paramushir is a variety of loquat (Elaeagnus multiflora), developed at the Sakhalin Research Institute of Agriculture and registered in 2016. The culture is characterized by a high-growing, moderately spreading bush that adapts well to agricultural conditions.
Paramushir berries have a red color, oval shape, and an average weight of about 1.8 g (up to 2.1 g). The taste of the berries is sweet-sour without a strong aroma, with a slight pleasant astringency. Sugar content is 10.3%, vitamin C is 85.6 mg/100 g, acids are 0.8%, oils are 13.3%, and carotenoids are 321.3 mcg/100 g. Thanks to these properties, the berries are suitable both for fresh consumption and for making jam.
The culture is distinguished by good winter hardiness, resistance to diseases and pests, as well as high yield within 84.0 c/ha. Paramushir does not require special care, which makes it an attractive choice for both commercial cultivation and gardening.
