Clearfield Efficiency: Real-world experience with Meriva KL

When planning a winter oilseed rape crop, the main challenges are weeds and disease pressure like Phoma. Working with the 'Meriva KL' hybrid from Deutsche Saatveredelung, I relied on the Clearfield technology, and the results in the field were outstanding. The plant reaches 150–160 cm in height but remains robust, showing excellent resistance to lodging even during heavy rainfall.

Yield and Field Performance

In terms of performance, the figures speak for themselves. We consistently hit yields between 40–50 dt/ha, which is excellent for our soil profile. The oil content remains in the 40–45% range, and the low glucosinolate content (15–16 µmol) ensures the harvest is highly valued by processors. The Clearfield system allows for efficient post-emergence weed control, saving significant time and labor compared to mechanical weeding.

• Seeding Density: We stick to 400,000–500,000 seeds/ha. This ensures optimal plant spacing, preventing overcrowding and allowing each plant to develop a strong rosette.
• Flowering Cycle: The extended 30–40 day flowering period allows for better pollination and resilience against temporary weather stress.
• Disease Defense: Phoma resistance is a standout feature. Even in wetter seasons, Meriva KL stays healthy, reducing the need for intensive fungicide applications.
