Field performance: Our experience with R 504 C 11

Choosing winter oilseed rape involves a constant trade-off between yield potential and disease pressure. Working with the German-bred R 504 C 11 from NPZ Lembke has proven that genetic stability is the best investment for a predictable harvest. It is a no-nonsense variety that performs consistently across various field conditions.

Agronomics and Seeding Density

In our practice, we have tested seeding rates ranging from 400,000 to 600,000 seeds per hectare. Due to the high branching capacity of this hybrid, it adapts remarkably well to the available space. The plants develop a robust structure, allowing them to compensate for any minor gaps in the stand and maintain a uniform canopy.

Disease Resilience as a Key Factor

The standout feature of R 504 C 11 is its disease resistance profile. Dealing with sclerotinia, phoma, and cylindrosporium has become significantly easier; the genetic resistance built into this hybrid effectively keeps these pathogens in check. For our operation, this translates into fewer fungicide passes and reduced input costs without sacrificing plant health.

Yield Expectations

We consistently hit targets between 30 and 40 decitonnes per hectare (30–40 ц/га). While some might chase higher figures under perfect conditions, for our crop rotation and soil profile, this consistency is exactly what we need for financial planning. The plants remain upright and uniform, ensuring clean, efficient harvesting with minimal losses.
