Description
The Zabelinskaya strawberry variety is a new Altai variety designed for cultivation in the conditions of Western and Eastern Siberia. The bushes are powerful, upright, with a vertical, dense, and well-leafed form. The leaves are large, dark green, weakly ribbed and slightly wrinkled, with wide serrations and long petioles. The runners are of medium length, pale pinkish, and moderately hairy, forming in large quantities, which contributes to the high runner-forming ability of the variety. The flowers are bisexual, of medium size, with a weak cream tint; the peduncles are located at the level of the leaves, which facilitates harvesting. The Zabelinskaya berries are large and very large, almost cylindrical in shape, uniformly colored red or dark red with a glossy surface. The average berry weight ranges from 8.5 to 17 grams, with maximum weight reaching up to 29.5 grams. The flesh is red, of medium density, juicy, with a sour-sweet taste and pleasant aroma, ensuring a high tasting score of up to 4.7 points. The berries lack a neck, have numerous seeds, which are yellowish and slightly sunken into the flesh. The variety belongs to the mid-late maturity period with one wave of fruiting, lasting about three weeks, starting from the end of June. Zabelinskaya is distinguished by high yield — up to 25 berries can form on one peduncle, and the average yield reaches 168.5 centners per hectare. The variety is of universal purpose, well suited for fresh consumption and transport; the berries remain fresh for up to two days without loss of quality. It possesses high winter hardiness and resistance to leaf diseases, root rots, and strawberry mite damage. Drought tolerance and heat tolerance are average, while pest and disease infestation is minimal, making Zabelinskaya a reliable and productive choice for gardeners and farmers.
