Description
Sage species Salvia miltiorrhiza cultivar «Tatyana» – high-essential-oil-containing, winter-hardy, and resistant to diseases and pests. It is intended for industrial essential oil production used in the perfume industry. The plant is characterized by a powerful habitus: bush height reaches 140–152 cm, leaflets measure 25‑28 × 13‑16 cm, and inflorescences are elongated, up to 80‑85 cm, cymose with a large number of side flowering axes. Flowers have varied coloration: calyxes from green to reddish-green, corollas yellowish-white, upper lip yellowish-white with a pale pinkish tint, lower lip white with a yellowish tint.
Inflorescence yield is consistently high: in competitive trials 2019–2022, the yield exceeded the standard variety Voznesensky 24 by 2.2 t/hectare, with an average indicator of about 137–138 c/hectare. Essential oil content in dry matter reaches 0.473% (up to 0.5%), resulting in total harvests up to 20.9 kg/hectare (average 20.5 kg/hectare). The oil is predominantly rich in linalyl acetate – about 56.5%, imparting a characteristic aroma.
«Tatyana» is grown both in autumn-winter sowing (October–November) and in summer (July–August). The crop easily adapts to mechanized harvesting due to resistance to calyx shedding. Due to high essential oil yields and winter hardiness, this variety is the preferred choice for perfume companies seeking quality raw materials with minimal cultivation and harvesting costs.
