Description
Hawthorn 'Rubinovaya' is a medium-sized tree reaching up to 3 m in height with a drooping crown and light green foliage whose edges are slightly dusted. The branch bark has a light brown hue. The tree quickly begins fruiting: the first berries appear as early as the third or fourth year after planting, with consistently high yields every year.
The fruits of 'Rubinovaya' are medium-sized (approximately 1.3 g), having an oblate-peltate shape, a smooth ribbed surface, and a ruby-red skin color. The flesh is yellow, very juicy, and acid-sweet with a slight astringency – characteristic of old Michurin varieties. The fruit contains about 12% sugar, 21 mg of vitamin C per 100 g, and 948 mcg of active substances.
This variety is versatile in use: the berries are suitable for making juices, jams, and alcoholic beverages, as well as for drying into dried fruits. Due to cold hardiness and a moderate ripening period (late September), 'Rubinovaya' is easy to grow on fertile light and medium loams with a weakly acidic reaction, but it does not tolerate waterlogged or excessively dry soils. The result is an abundant harvest of medium yield – about 173 c/ha, while the tree maintains winter frost resistance.
