Description
Stable Yields with Minimal Risks
Experience with the Areta KWS sugar beet hybrid shows that KWS German breeding is primarily focused on technological efficiency. When planting this hybrid, you realize that breeders at KWS Saat SE prioritized survival in challenging phytosanitary conditions. In our field reality, this is arguably the key factor determining profitability.
Crop Health: Immunity Against Major Threats
The primary concern for any sugar beet grower is managing stand density. Areta KWS demonstrates excellent resistance to root rot, which makes life significantly easier during the seedling stage. There is no need to constantly traverse fields with insecticides or fungicides, struggling to save sparse patches. Resistance to rhizomania and cercospora allows for greater confidence, even in years with high infection pressure. Powdery mildew does not become a critical issue either, preserving the leaf surface area until harvest—the direct path to high sugar accumulation.
Agronomics: Density as a Management Tool
Based on operational experience, the hybrid is very plastic regarding stand density. Depending on soil type and moisture availability, we adjust the seeding rate:
- For highly fertile soils with good moisture, we maintain a range of 100,000–110,000 plants/ha, allowing for uniform root development without excessive inter-row competition.
- In fields with moderate potential, or when needing to hedge against potential seedling loss, we increase the density to 110,000–120,000 plants/ha.
Areta KWS responds predictably to these adjustments, maintaining root size and excellent technological qualities. The hybrid is not demanding in terms of care and responds well to standard protection schemes used in our operations. If you are looking for an option that forgives slight technological errors and delivers consistent yields even under adverse conditions, this is a solid, reliable tool for your crop rotation.
