Description
FD 9991 — this is a new promising high-yielding sugar beet hybrid combining high yield and sugar content. Diploid NZ-type, it is suitable for cultivation in all regions of the sugar beet growing zone. The root is conical, white-green in color with ridges, weighing approximately 700 grams and 90% buried in soil. Sugar content of the roots is 17-19%, ensuring high raw material quality. The hybrid's vegetation period lasts from 140 to 155 days, and yield under proper agronomy reaches 35-45 tons per hectare and may reach up to 85 tons of top-quality beet.
The plant is cold-resistant, light-loving, and moderately demanding on soil fertility. The hybrid tolerates moderately saline soils well and positively responds to liming, preferring optimal soil pH in the range of 6.5-7.5. For sowing, a depth of 6-7 cm is recommended upon soil warming to 6-8 °C, with a seeding rate of 2-10 kg per hectare and a plant density of 85-100 thousand plants per hectare before harvest. The plant requires adequate moisture, especially during seed germination and root formation, although excessive moisture before harvest may reduce sugar content and damage roots.
The FD 9991 hybrid exhibits tolerance to cercosporosis and good storability and transportability of roots. To achieve maximum yield, partially composted fertilizers are recommended, avoiding fresh manure which deteriorates commercial quality. Harvesting can be conducted throughout the harvest period, providing flexibility in agronomic practices and enabling efficient resource utilization.
