Description
LV CS 40 — a sugar beet variety, an important sugar-producing crop in the temperate zone. This variety is characterized by high sugar content in its roots, reaching 18–20%, making it valuable for sugar production. In addition, sugar beet LV CS 40 is also used as a fodder crop: 100 kg of roots contain 25 feeding units and 1.2 kg of digestible protein, while the tops provide 20 feeding units and 2.2 kg of digestible protein, enhancing its versatility in agriculture.
Sugar beet LV CS 40 is a heat-loving and heat-tolerant crop, with an optimal temperature for growth and development of 20–22°C, although photosynthesis effectively occurs even at temperatures above 40°C. The plant is highly demanding in terms of water, especially during the intensive growth of roots in July–August. Due to its well-developed root system capable of absorbing water from depths of about 2.5 meters, the beet shows good drought resistance. Seeds germinate over a wide temperature range from +4 to 17°C, with germination time depending on temperature. During autumn, the crop can withstand frosts down to -5°C without damage, although lower temperatures may negatively affect sugar accumulation.
To protect and enhance the yield of LV CS 40, a comprehensive protection scheme is applied, including seed treatment, soil spraying before and after sowing, and the use of various agents at different growth stages. Applied agents include growth regulators, seed treatments, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and adhesives, which provide effective protection against pests and diseases, as well as promote optimal plant development and improve crop quality.
