Description
Lygovsky MS 29 — a diploid single-stem hybrid of sugar beet, bred at the Lygovskaya Experimental and Breeding Station. This hybrid belongs to medium-maturing varieties with a yield-sugar direction and is characterized by high single-seedliness (96%) and germination at 82% level. Root crops have a good shape and average mass of about 544 grams, which facilitates harvesting and processing.
Average yield of Lygovsky MS 29 during variety trials reaches approximately 50.2 t/ha (or 376 q/ha under regional conditions), which corresponds to the average standard. Sugar content in root crops is about 17.4–17.7%, which is higher than standard indicators, and sugar collection reaches 72 q/ha with a probable factory output of up to 69 q/ha, which is 5 q/ha higher than average. These indicators make the hybrid attractive for industrial sugar production.
The hybrid is characterized by resistance to a number of pests and diseases, including beet webworm and root rots, and is resistant to bolting, which ensures stable crop formation. However, it is moderately susceptible to cercosporosis, viral yellows, and powdery mildew, and is more susceptible to damage from beet flea beetle and seed maggot. High technological qualities and adaptability make Lygovsky MS 29 a reliable choice for cultivation in the Central Black Earth region.
