Field Performance of Strube «Olson» Sugar Beet

When selecting a sugar beet hybrid from Strube, our focus was on field robustness and yield reliability. «Olson» is a classic NZ-type (normal sugar content) hybrid that delivers a consistent balance between tonnage and sugar accumulation. Achieving 17–18% sugar content is a standard outcome for this hybrid when standard agronomic practices are followed, making it a reliable choice for commercial production.

From an operator's perspective, the physical characteristics of «Olson» are a significant advantage during harvest. The oval-conical shape and uniform, medium-sized roots allow our harvesting equipment to run smoothly without frequent adjustments. The roots clear the soil effectively, which minimizes machine stress and significantly reduces harvest losses.

• Disease Resistance: The hybrid shows excellent tolerance to Rhizomania and Cercospora leaf spot. During seasons with high humidity, when fungal pressure typically spikes, «Olson» maintains its health, allowing us to follow a standard fungicide schedule without needing emergency applications.
• Crop Health: Its resistance to nematodes and black leg (root rot) ensures consistent emergence and establishment. High initial growth energy is a standout trait, which is crucial for maintaining the desired plant density across the field.
