Description
SIOUX — a medium-maturing hybrid sugar beet, recommended for cultivation in the Volga and Central regions. The plant has medium or low height, with leaves of intense green color and medium leaf blade wrinkling. Root mass varies by region: in the Volga region it is about 725 g, and in the Central region it reaches 904.5 g. Yield also depends on growing conditions and region, averaging 643.2 c/ha in the Volga region and 803.5 c/ha in the Central region, with maximum yields up to 970 c/ha. Sugar content in roots ranges from 16.4% to 19.2%, ensuring high sugar harvest — up to 131.9 c/ha in the Central region.
The hybrid exhibits good resistance to major pathogens: it is highly resistant to cercosporosis and moderately resistant to root rot and root-eating pests, contributing to stable yields and reduced losses under adverse conditions. The plant is adapted to climatic characteristics of cultivation regions and shows good drought tolerance due to its well-developed root system capable of absorbing moisture from depths up to 2.5 meters.
Sugar beet SIOUX prefers warm climates with optimal growth temperature of 20-22°C, but can effectively photosynthesize even at temperatures above 40°C. Seeds germinate over a wide temperature range from +4 to +17°C, with emergence time depending on temperature and varying by 10-15 days. During the intensive root growth period, especially in July-August, the crop requires adequate moisture, as water deficiency leads to increased nitrogen content in roots. Before harvest, sugar beet can withstand frosts down to -5°C without damage to sugar accumulation.
