Description
Sugar beet variety Upper is a high-yielding hybrid with resistance to major diseases such as cercospora, powdery mildew, and root rot. The root is cylindrical-conical or conical in shape, with white, juicy flesh and a weight of 300 to 450 grams, two-thirds of which is buried in the soil. The leaf rosette is semi-erect or upright, with a large number of leaves, which promotes good photosynthesis and plant development. The root system is taprooted, penetrating deeply into the soil to 2-2.5 meters and branching out laterally, providing drought resistance and good plant nutrition.
This variety is recommended for cultivation in various climatic zones of Ukraine, including the Polesie, Forest-Steppe, and Steppe regions, with the option of irrigation to increase yield. The vegetation period is 140-155 days, allowing for a stable harvest throughout the season. Yield varies from 600 to 950 centners per hectare depending on the cultivation zone and conditions, with sugar content of the roots reaching 17-19%, making this variety high-sugar and economically advantageous for sugar production.
The crop requires careful attention to cultivation conditions: it is cold-tolerant but needs adequate moisture, especially during seed germination and root formation. The optimal soil pH for sowing is 6.5-7.5, and seed depth should be 6-7 cm at a soil temperature of 6-8°C. The recommended plant density before harvest is 85-100 thousand plants per hectare, with a seed sowing rate of 2-10 kg per hectare. These agronomic features ensure maximum productivity and quality of the harvest.
