Serbian breeding from the IFVCNS (Novi Sad) institute is known for its adaptability, and the "Vencac" sugar beet hybrid is a prime example. As an agronomist, I value this hybrid for its predictability: it belongs to the normal-sugar type (NZ), making it a "golden mean" for farms aiming for both high sugar output and decent root mass.

Disease resistance

The main headache in sugar beet cultivation is disease pressure. "Vencac" really stands its ground. In the field, it demonstrates excellent resistance to damping-off in early stages and successfully resists a complex of foliar diseases: cercospora, downy mildew, and powdery mildew. This means savings on fungicide applications, which is a significant plus for profitability given the current costs of crop protection products.

Technical specifics

• Root shape: the oval-conical shape minimizes losses during mechanized harvesting. The roots are medium-sized and uniform, which is critical for pile purity.
• Sugar content: consistently maintains levels in the 17-18% range.
• Seeding density: optimal performance is achieved in the 80,000–100,000 plants/ha range, depending on soil fertility and moisture availability. On chernozems with good water supply, I recommend sticking to the higher end of that range.

Working with this hybrid is straightforward; it responds well to intensive technology but remains low-maintenance under standard care. If you are looking for a reliable "workhorse" that won't fail in a bad year, "Vencac" will be a dependable asset in your crop rotation.
