Field Performance of the Cortesa Hybrid

When selecting seeds, stability is the most important factor for any agronomist. Working with the three-way Cortesa hybrid from Kmk Agro, I’ve found it to be a reliable performer that stands up to the demands of modern farming. Here is my take on its field performance.

Development and Growth

The vegetation period of 100-110 days is ideal for our cycle. The plants reach a height of 160-170 cm, which is the 'sweet spot' for harvesting efficiency. At this height, the combine head works seamlessly, minimizing header losses while ensuring the stalks are sturdy enough to support the heads throughout the season.

Disease Resistance and Yield

Downy mildew (peronospora) is a recurring threat, but the resistance built into Cortesa genuinely makes life easier. It allows us to optimize our fungicide schedule, saving on input costs without compromising crop safety.

• Oil Content: Consistently hitting the 50-55% mark. In the current market, this high oil percentage is crucial for getting better premiums from processors.
• Harvesting: Stalk strength is excellent, meaning no lodging issues even when harvest is delayed by late-season weather.
• Uniformity: Because the crop ripens evenly, we don’t have to worry about inconsistent moisture levels across the field.

Ultimately, Cortesa is a no-nonsense hybrid. It provides predictable results, fits well into standard rotation and input programs, and holds its own against common diseases. If you want a hybrid that doesn't require constant babysitting but delivers consistent oil yields at harvest, this is a solid choice.
