GORSTAR

GORSTAR — medium-early sunflower hybrid, created by hybridization of maternal line ED 45 and paternal line ED 155. Plants reach a height of 160–175 cm, have medium height at maturity and lack branching. Leaves are green with medium pubescence, ray florets are yellow, and seeds are characterized by weakly expressed marginal and intermarginal stripes. The vegetation period ranges from 92 to 122 days depending on growing conditions. The hybrid exhibits high drought resistance and tolerance to ragweed races (E, F, G), as well as resistance to false powdery mildew and moderate resistance to white mold. In field conditions, Gorstar is weakly affected by dry rot, powdery mildew, and white mold, but moderately affected by rust. Plants are resistant to lodging, which contributes to stable yield formation. GORSTAR is recommended for cultivation in various regions of Russia, including the Central Chernozem, North Caucasus, Volga, Lower Volga, Ural, and West Siberian regions, as well as in Oryol, Rostov, Volgograd, Saratov, and Orenburg regions, Krasnodar and Stavropol krais. The potential yield of the hybrid reaches 3.7–4.3 t/ha, exceeding standard benchmarks, with 1000-seed mass varying from 54.1 to 70 g. Oil content of seeds is 48.5–50.5 %, and the recommended planting density is 50–55 thousand plants per hectare.
