Technical Profile of the "Goodwin" Sunflower Hybrid

Developed by the V. Ya. Yuriev Plant Production Institute of the NAAS, the "Goodwin" hybrid is engineered specifically for the climatic conditions of Ukraine. The core development strategy focused on balancing vegetative speed with physiological resistance to primary pathogens.

Vegetative and Morphological Indicators

With a growing season of 110–120 days, Goodwin is classified as a mid-early hybrid. This cycle length allows for efficient use of soil moisture before the peak summer heat. The plant height of 160–170 cm is optimized for standard harvesting machinery, reducing potential header losses.

Phytosanitary Stability and Quality

The hybrid’s genetic architecture provides targeted defense against specific fungal threats:

• Phomopsis: inherent resistance mechanisms prevent stem degradation and lodging.
• Fusarium: the plant exhibits high tolerance to vascular system infection, ensuring the overall health of the seed head.

The oil content ranges from 45% to 50%, meeting the efficiency standards for the processing industry. The convex shape of the medium-sized seed head ensures efficient threshing, allowing for cleaner harvesting with minimal seed mechanical damage.
