Technological Potential of the "Lakewood" Hybrid

The Grand Semens breeding program is focused on creating hybrids capable of mitigating risks in intensive farming. "Lakewood" is a mid-ripening sunflower hybrid with a vegetation period of 110–120 days, making it optimal for most climatic zones in Ukraine. Its key feature is full genetic adaptation to the Clearfield production system (Euro-Lightning technology).

Integrated Protection and Immunity

The productivity of this hybrid is based on a combination of herbicide resistance (imidazolinone group) and pronounced phytosanitary protection. Given the increasing pathogen pressure in modern fields, "Lakewood" offers the following solutions:

• Fungicidal Tolerance: Genetically engineered resistance to downy mildew (Peronospora) eliminates the risk of early crop infestation in high soil moisture conditions.
• Stem Infection Defense: High resistance to Phomopsis and Phoma prevents premature stem desiccation, maintaining the plant's vascular system integrity until harvest.

Practical Cultivation Aspects

Using "Lakewood" in crop rotation allows agronomists to effectively control weeds, including stubborn species like broomrape, due to its compatibility with Euro-Lightning based herbicides. The maturity timing ensures uniform head ripening, simplifying harvest logistics and minimizing yield losses during threshing. The robust root system provides high field germination and stable access to moisture even during summer heatwaves, which is critical for forming high-quality oilseeds.
