French genetics in the field: our experience with Mugli CL

Working with the R2N "Mugli CL" hybrid, you immediately notice the uniformity of the crops. This French-bred sunflower doesn't require constant tweaking; it produces a consistent yield even in volatile weather conditions. For us, as practitioners, this sunflower has become an effective solution for weed management.

Tech-forward protection

The main argument for "Mugli CL" is its tolerance to the Clearfield (Euro-Lightning) system. This gives us full control over broomrape and weeds. Once sprayed, you can stop worrying about nutrient competition. The plants reach 160-170 cm, which makes harvesting straightforward: the stalk is strong, resistant to lodging, and the heads hold up perfectly until the combine arrives.

Harvest results

The seeds are large and grey-striped, which processors appreciate, as oil content consistently ranges between 45-50%. In terms of phytosanitary health, the hybrid holds its ground well:

• Downy mildew (Peronospora) — we haven't seen it since germination.
• Rust and Phomopsis — no critical damage observed.
• Powdery mildew — the plant's natural immunity handles it without extra fungicide passes.

The 90-100 day growing period allows us to complete harvesting before the autumn rains, which is crucial in our climate. This is a predictable, reliable hybrid for anyone who values clean fields and high oil yield.
