Shenon

Shenon sunflower is an early-maturing hybrid with a vegetation period of about 110–115 days, developed by VNILS under the Sumo (Granstar) and SU-technology. It features high yield potential, reaching up to 5.8 t/ha (58 c/ha), and high oil content in seeds — up to 52%. Seeds are black, medium to large-sized, and plant height is 165–170 cm. The hybrid is recommended for cultivation in the Forest-Steppe and Steppe regions of Ukraine, taking into account various moisture zones, where optimal plant density at harvest varies from 45 to 55 thousand plants per hectare.

Shenon exhibits high resistance to downy mildew (7 races, A–G), as well as a broad spectrum of diseases, including fusarium, rust, false powdery mildew, sclerotinia, gray and white mold. This ensures stable yields even under drought and other stress conditions. The hybrid is well-adapted to various soil tillage technologies, such as conventional, mini-till, strip-till, and no-till, making it a versatile choice for modern agrotechnologies.

Due to resistance to herbicides based on tribenuron-methyl (rate 50 g/ha), Shenon allows effective weed control without harming the crop. High flower fill and stable oil content make this hybrid attractive for producers seeking high-quality and high-yield sunflower crops with optimal costs for protection and maintenance.
