Description
Thuja 'Kuban Emerald' – is a compact coniferous variety with a characteristic columnar shape and height up to 3 m. The plant features a dense crown where branches are evenly distributed without gaps, giving it a symmetrical appearance. The needles are dark green, scale-like, and soft; young growth has a yellow-green hue. Berries – round cone-berry.
Kuban Emerald grows well in both sunny and semi-shaded areas, but in direct sunlight the needle color becomes brighter and denser. The plant is frost-hardy down to -30 °C and handles drought well, although prolonged lack of moisture may slow growth. For optimal development, fertile soil with good drainage is recommended: a mixture of 2 parts soil, 1 part peat, and 1 part sand.
Care for this variety is minimal: moderate watering, protection against waterlogging, and regular soil aeration. Thuja does not require pruning – its conical shape is maintained with age. Possible diseases (fusarium, rust, shute, phytophthora, grey mold) are rare due to the plant's high resistance, and pests (aphids, weevils, moths, spider mites, scale insects) are easily controlled with timely monitoring. Thanks to these characteristics, 'Kuban Emerald' is ideal for living hedges, alleys, and decorative compositions in city and country gardens.
