THYME

THYME is a semi-shrub growing 35–55 cm tall with a bush diameter of 40–60 cm, starting to bloom in early June and finishing by the end of the month, with seeds maturing by late July. The plant contains up to 71% of essential oil of 1,8-cineole, giving it a rich aroma.

Thyme prefers level, open areas with loose, fertile soil and bright sun. It grows well in drought-resistant conditions, but for open ground cultivation, it is suitable only in southern regions. Due to its compactness and drought tolerance, THYME is often used as a carpet plant: it is placed in borders, rockeries, alpine slides, along dry streams, and as the first layer of mixed borders.

The plant has a pleasant, strong aroma and is an excellent honey plant. Fresh greens are used as a spice in salads, while dried leaves are used to prepare seasonings for meat and fish, as well as in pickles and marinades. Due to its taste and aromatic properties, THYME is valued both in cuisine and in decorative gardening.
