Description
OREGON SUGAR is a mid-season sugar pea variety, distinguished by large pods up to 10 cm long and sweet light-green peas with about 8% sugar content. Plants reach a height of 65-70 cm, possess excellent taste qualities, and are suitable for fresh consumption, as well as canning and freezing. This variety prefers fertile, loamy and medium loam soils with neutral or slightly acidic reaction, and also requires good aeration and sufficient moisture throughout the growing season. Plants are placed in sunny areas, and seeds are sown in open ground at the beginning of May at a depth of 3-4 cm on heavy soils and 4-5 cm on light soils. Seeds germinate at temperatures from 2 to 5°C, and seedlings can withstand short-term frosts down to -6°C. If necessary, trellises are installed to support the plants.
To increase yield, it is recommended to feed with micro-fertilizers containing boron and molybdenum. Peas grow well after such crops as potato, cabbage, cucumbers, and tomatoes, but it is not recommended to plant them after other legumes. It is also important to avoid applying fresh manure directly under the crop, as this can lead to excessive branching and increased susceptibility to diseases. OREGON SUGAR is a cold-resistant moisture-loving crop that, with proper care, ensures a stable and quality harvest.
