Description
SOUTH 47 is an early shelling variety of vegetable pea that is characterized by high yield and resistance to major diseases, such as ascochytosis and powdery mildew. Plants reach a height of 70-85 cm, have a simple stem with 11-15 nodes and 7-8 pods, arranged compactly at a height of about 40-43 cm. Pods are straight, dark green in color with an obtuse tip, 7-8 cm long, with 7 to 9 seeds in each. Ripening occurs quickly – in 48-53 days, which makes the variety early-maturing and convenient for cultivation in various regions.
Green peas of the SOUTH 47 variety differ in large, uniform seeds of light green color with a semi-almond structure. At the technical maturity phase, the peas contain about 20.1% dry matter, 5.9% sugars and 2.1% starch, which ensures a pleasant taste and high product quality. The mass of 1000 seeds is 235-248 g, which indicates the large-fruited nature of the variety. Pod yield reaches 12.8-14.1 t/ha, and seeds – 2-2.5 t/ha, which makes this variety economically beneficial for cultivation.
The SOUTH 47 variety is versatile in application: it is suitable for fresh consumption, as well as freezing and canning. Due to its resistance to root rots and diseases, as well as high yield, it is recommended for cultivation in such countries as Moldova, Ukraine and Russia. This variety was bred and approved for use by the Transnistrian NIIAS and has been successfully used in agriculture since 1990.
