Description
Vesta pea is a mid-early variety intended for fresh consumption, canning, and freezing. The period from full germination to the beginning of technical maturity ranges from 43 to 59 days, ensuring early and uniform crop ripening. The plant is characterized by a medium stem height of about 70-75 cm, with medium to large blue-green leaves with a grayish hue and a waxy coating. Stipules are also covered with a waxy coating and have weak spotting. Pods are straight, long, and wide, typically 2-3 pods per peduncle, green in technical maturity with a parchment layer, while the peas differ with a dark green color and good taste qualities. The Vesta variety is distinguished by high yield, ranging from 34 to 79 centners per hectare, which exceeds the standard indicators of the Alpha variety. The plant is medium-leafy, with pods over 10 cm long and about 1.6 cm wide, forming 6 to 8 pods per plant containing 10-12 seed primordia. Seeds are medium to large in size, wrinkled, with green cotyledons. Thanks to its cold hardiness and stable yield, the variety is popular among vegetable growers, ensuring abundant fruiting and high product quality. Vesta is suitable for mechanized harvesting, which facilitates the harvest collection process and increases production efficiency. The variety is included in the State Register for the North Caucasian region and recommended for cultivation in this climatic zone. Its versatility allows peas to be used both fresh and for processing, making them in demand both in the fresh vegetable market and in the food industry.
